About the team
The Advanced Development organization pushes beyond the boundaries of product lines to build new things. We think independently of standard shipping cadences and timelines, working on foundational technologies that will impact every Roku device in the future, and on ideas that no one has seen before in their living room.
We are responsible for driving forward the architecture of Roku OS which ships worldwide, running on devices in more than 85 million streaming households. This work can include anything from optimizing common libraries to redesigning the APIs and development environment used by third-party apps running on our platform. We work hard to ensure our software is optimized across a wide range of platforms and we are super focused on maximizing customer experience.
About the role
As a Senior SDET at Roku you will be responsible for driving the test automation for parts of Roku's native development kit which exposes fundamental APIs for the Roku platform. These APIs are used both externally and internally by teams to build higher level SDKs. You will also be digging into the high-level vision for these APIs, increasing team productivity and enhancing a culture of continuous quality improvement throughout the software development lifecycle. As a Senior SDET with Roku you will be expected to be a self-starter, with endless curiosity, and the ability to think big along with a bias for action.
What you’ll be doing
- Utilize and integrate automated test tools, frameworks, systems, and libraries that validate correctness and monitor performance of Roku devices and services
- Write automation tests, analyze/troubleshoot failures, track defects, drive resolution, verify fixes and communicate results to stakeholders
- Track and report test coverage across API surfaces of various components
- Triage bugs reported by others, extending automated tests where possible to catch such defects in the future
- Work with others to certify releases, and flag blocking issues from release candidates
We’re excited if you have
- 5+ years of experience in developing and executing automation test plans for software
- 3+ years of experience in programming using high-level languages such as Python
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with CI/CD pipeline development and deployment
- Experience with Linux, version control (git), and test management tools (Jenkins, JIRA)
- Experience with digital video technologies, set-top boxes, and televisions is a strong plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented, analytical, methodical, and self-driven
