About the Role

This newly created and high-impact role within Roku’s Search & Recommendations Engineering organisation is a rare opportunity to build and lead an infrastructure function from the ground up. As Director, Infrastructure, you will be responsible for setting the vision and strategy for Roku’s cloud infrastructure, data engineering frameworks, and machine learning platforms that power search, personalization, and content discovery across millions of devices.

The Search & Recommendations Engineering organisation sits at the heart of Roku’s content ecosystem. It powers:

• Search: The engine behind all search experiences on Roku.

• Recommendations: Driving content personalization at scale.

• Browse Platform: Cloud services supporting most of the Roku UI.

• Content Platform: Enabling deep understanding of all content on Roku.

• Video Platform: Roku’s Online Video Platform (OVP) for all owned video services.

• The Roku Channel (TRC): One of the largest SVOD & AVOD streaming services on Roku.

This team plays a mission-critical role in delivering seamless content discovery, personalisation, and streaming experiences to Roku’s global customer base.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Director, Infrastructure Engineering, you will:

• Build and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary infrastructure team to support the growth of Roku’s Search & Recommendations org.

• Set the long-term infrastructure strategy spanning cloud services, data pipelines, and machine learning platforms.

• Collaborate closely with engineering, data science, and product teams to ensure alignment between infrastructure capabilities and business goals.

• Define scalable architecture patterns and invest in automation, observability, and reliability to ensure seamless growth of Roku’s data and ML services.

• Drive infrastructure innovation to support experimentation, low-latency data processing, and real-time personalization experiences.

This is a foundational role that will shape how infrastructure supports every key vertical within Search & Recommendations. You’ll be responsible for enabling scale, reliability, and performance across distributed systems handling billions of data points, powering search relevance, ML-driven recommendations, and content metadata pipelines.

You will also be expected to influence cross-functional engineering roadmaps and proactively address evolving needs of platform scalability and cost optimisation. Your leadership will help ensure Roku maintains industry-leading performance while delivering best-in-class streaming experiences.

We’re Excited If You Have

• Proven experience building and leading high-performing teams in infrastructure, cloud services, or platform engineering.

• Strong technical expertise in cloud computing, large-scale distributed systems, and machine learning infrastructure.

• A track record of driving scalability, cost efficiency, and system reliability in cloud-native environments.

• Deep knowledge of DevOps, SRE practices, infrastructure-as-code, and real-time data processing architectures.

• Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and align cross-functional stakeholders across engineering, data, and product.
